I decided to do this project on the AMC movie theater one night while at the theater. I had just come out of Dark City. I went to the bathroom. I noticed how surreal the entire theater was. How everything was perfectly constructed. Everything was clean and new, bright and shiny. The music followed me into the bathroom creating a weird sort of continuous space between the lobby and the bathroom. Normally the division between lobby and bathroom is marked acoustically by a decrease in volume of the lobby music as you enter the bathroom and a silence or a distorted version of the lobby music while in the bathroom. Here this acoustic cue was erased. Sound had been separated from environment. This disturbed me.
