A friend of mine once told me that you can tell what a society values by looking at what buildings are most heavily adorned. Gothic and Romanesque Churches, the seat of religion, were probably the most decorated builds in there time. Castles and palaces, the homes of royalty, also held this exalted position at one time. Now the most embellished buildings are banks, shopping malls, and sites of entertainment.
